UN 9125 by Brian Schultz Wednesday August 17, 2016
Roundtrip mileage: 0.9 miles from CR 375, north of Buena Vista
Elevation gain: 425'
Start to finish: 40 minutes
I had time to climb something short and easy before meeting friends in Lake City and this peak was right on the way. When I reached the town of Buena Vista, I turned east on Main Street, north on N Colorado Ave (CR 371), and then right on CR 375. I parked on the road just before it turned away from the peak, across from a gentle drainage handily marked with a cairn.
Skies were threatening as I began at 2:25 PM but no worries as this would be a short hike. I hiked up the left side of the drainage toward the saddle between the high point (left side of the saddle) and UN 9125 on easy terrain, and even followed a trail briefly before it veered away from the peak.
From the saddle, there was some fun class 2+ climbing on the back side and then a class 3 move on the summit boulder. I arrived at 2:45 and sat on the boulder for a few minutes before making an easy jump off it. I stayed on the summit area enjoying the views (photo 1, photo 2) of the Sawatch range's higher peaks before departing at 2:55. It was an easy descent back to the truck and I arrived at 3:05. This was a fun peak!
