Swan Mountain (10,796) & UN 10450) by Brian Schultz Wednesday July 26, 2017

Swan Mountain:

Roundtrip mileage: 4.25 miles from Swan Mountain road at Dillon Reservoir overlook
Elevation gain: 1,850'
Start to finish: 3 hours 20 minutes
Participants: Brian Schultz and grandson Tyler

We parked at the overlook along Swan Mountain road and headed south at 8:35 AM on a bushwhack to the summit. There were lots of downed trees and lots of ups and downs. I can't say it was much fun because it wasn't but the route worked. We returned to the truck at 11:55.

UN 10450:

Roundtrip mileage: 2.1 miles from CR 6 (Tiger road)
Elevation gain: 990'
Start to finish: 1 hour 45 minutes
Participants: Brian Schultz and grandson Tyler

Tyler and I took a lunch break in Frisco after climbing Swan Mountain and then drove Hwy 9 south to CR 6 (Tiger road). On the north side of CR 6 is a road that leads to Muggins Gulch, which we drove to a gate and parked. We headed up the ridge from the gate, a mistake as the correct approach starts in the grassy drainage (obvious) just before the gate. We gained unnecessary elevation and added extra mileage, and dealt with lots of deadfall. Eventually we reached the summit at 3:10. We departed at 3:20 and followed the easy route back to the truck and arrived at 3:50.
