Rollins Benchmark (9,161) & UN 9264 by Brian Schultz Thursday August 28, 2025

Rollins Benchmark:
Roundtrip mileage: 3.2 miles
Elevation gain: 700'
Start to finish: 1 hour 35 minutes

I used Paul Metz's helpful trip report for this peak. Rollins Benchmark itself is on public land but private property surrounds it. The easiest approach is from the northwest and Paul's report describes how to reach a trail from private property. I parked in the open area on Highway 119 and Old Stagecoach Trail and began at 7:10 AM by walking Old Stagecoach south, left on North Country Road, right on Willies Lane, right on Albert Drive, and left on Dudes Drive. Lots of "no trespassing" signs are posted on the private residences along the roads. When Dudes Drive makes a sharp turn south and begins descending, a fence opening on the left side grants public access to the trail, which heads east toward the summit.

Shortly after starting up the trail, there's a sign stating "private property, stay on trail please". This excellent trail goes all the way to the summit. It appears the first large outcrop at the top is the summit but it's not. The actual summit is another large outcrop about 150' beyond the first one and initially looks intimidating but it's very easy to reach the highest of the boulders/large rocks. The views (photo 1, photo 2, photo 3) from the summit are outstanding! A fast descent on the trail as well as on the roads had me back at my truck at 8:45. This was one of the most fun peaks I did on my Colorado climbs this summer.

UN 9264:
Roundtrip mileage: 1.60 miles
Elevation gain: 360'
Start to finish: 1 hour

It's just a short drive back down Highway 119 for the approach to this peak. I parked at a pull-out (east side of the highway) and began at 9:25 AM on what the map said was an old road. It may have been a road years ago but now it's just a trail. It was easy to follow and it did get wider further up. One can follow a winding trail north (at a junction) that goes to the summit but the terrain was so open and easy that I bushwhacked straight to the top. There are no views from the summit. I was back to my truck at 10:25 and headed to Evergreen to have lunch with friend Dave Chamberlin before heading home.
