"The Pulverizer" (10,379), Pulver Mountain (10,541), & UN 9384 by Brian Schultz Friday August 22, 2025
"The Pulverizer" & Pulver Mountain:
Roundtrip mileage: 3.30 miles
Elevation gain: ~1,700'
Start to finish: 4 hours 40 minutes
Participants: Tim Briese, Brian Schultz
The weather forecast allowed for a moderately late start as we drove Highway 24 from Woodland Park toward Wilkerson Pass. Just before reaching the Pass, we turned left on CR 90, then left on FR 706 and followed it to its end in a large grassy parking area. We began at 8:25 AM on a bearing to the west. No trail existed here, and lots of deadfall slowed our progress as we aimed for "The Pulverizer". An hour and a half later, at 9:55, we reached its summit. The weather was so nice we stayed 40 minutes on top and departed for Pulver Mountain at 10:35.
The terrain to Pulver was much easier but it still took an hour and twenty minutes to reach the summit (photo 1, photo 2). The weather allowed a twenty five minute stay on top, and we departed at 12:20. We descended the north ridge of Pulver and found a semblance of a trail that weaved through a bunch of timber stacks. This was very handy and 45 minutes later we were back at our trucks, at 1:05.
UN 9384:
Roundtrip mileage: 1.20 miles
Elevation gain: 310'
Start to finish: 40 minutes
We could've approached this peak from CR 90 after finishing Pulver Mountain but opted to drive out to Highway 24. We parked on a side road north of Hwy 24 and northwest of UN 9384. We began at 1:35 PM by crossing Hwy 24 and setting our bearing southeast toward the peak. This was easy traveling and as we got closer to the summit, we contoured around lots of boulder outcrops until reaching the summit boulders. We only stayed a few minutes and headed back, arriving at our vehicles at 2:15. A short and easy hike on this peak.
