Pinnacle Mountain (1011 feet) Arkansas by Brian Schultz Friday October 5, 2007
Even small mountains have to be climbed and Pinnacle Mountain, west of Little Rock, Arkansas, should not be overlooked. While visiting family for a few days, I joined my son-in-law Phil on this fun short hike. Residing in a state park by the same name, the trailhead begins at 328 feet elevation.
The elevation gain is just under 700 feet on a well marked and heavily used trail. We began in the late morning under clear, sunny skies with high humidity and immediately began sweating as we made our way up.
We left the trail for a bit of scrambling on the rocky spine (above and below).
This was especially fun and the summit was reached in about a half hour.
The views from the summit are surprisingly good for being such a low elevation peak. After a short but enjoyable stay we made a quick descent back to the parking lot and headed to the local oasis for a cool beverage.
Roundtrip time- 55 minutes.
