UN 10123, Limestone Ridge (10,132), UN 10350 by Brian Schultz Thursday July 22, 2021

UN 10123:
Roundtrip mileage: 2.95 miles from FR185.D
Elevation gain: ~750'
Start to finish: 1 hour 45 minutes

Directions from Buena Vista: Hwy 285 to CR 307, right on CR 187, right on FR 185, and right on FR 185.D
All these roads from Hwy 285 are easy two-wheel drive and I parked at 9613' elevation, southeast of the summit. I began at 8:00 AM, keeping a bearing to the left (west) of the private property. At one point, I had to step over a barbed wire fence but that was the extent of the difficulties on this peak.

I started up toward the 10123/10122 saddle and near the top turned right (north) to UN 10123. I stepped on top at 8:55, a neat summit with good views. On the return I took a slightly easier bearing toward a clearing below and then resumed the route I took for the ascent. I was back at my truck at 9:45, overall a fun hike on this peak.

Limestone Ridge:
Roundtrip mileage: 1.11 miles from Lenhardy Cutoff Road
Elevation gain: 380'
Start to finish: 45 minutes

I returned to Highway 285 and stopped along the way to take a pic of Castle Rock, one of my favorite peaks. Then it was a quick turn onto FR 305 from Hwy 285 and then onto the Lenhardy Cutoff road. The Lenhardy road has a few rough spots and I wouldn't drive a two wheel drive vehicle on it unless it has high clearance. I parked at a nice pull out large enough for camping, just north of Limestone Ridge on the west side of the cattle guard.

I used Whiley Hall's trip report to find this handy approach. I began at 11:05 AM and found the old road she describes. It leads up to Limestone's summit and it's crazy steep but it was definitely preferable to bushwhacking. I walked all over the large summit to cover the potential highpoints before returning to my truck at 11:50. The views from the top were great.

UN 10350:
Roundtrip mileage: 1.6 miles from Lenhardy Cutoff Road
Elevation gain: ~600'
Start to finish: 1 hour 10 minutes

I began at 12:10 PM from the same pull out as for Limestone Ridge. I crossed over the cattle guard to start on the east side of a fence but that wasn't necessary. Either side of the fence works to get up higher. Straight ahead is UN 10350 with large walls and boulders that can be bypassed to the right.

Once around these obstacles, gaining the ridge is moderately steep at first and then becomes an easy stroll to the summit. I arrived at 12:45 and stayed a few minutes enjoying the views. An easy descent back to the truck put my return at 1:20.
